Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire and Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Wales, has congratulated Kirsty Williams AM on her election as the new Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats.
Mr Williams said:
"I am delighted that Kirsty Williams has been elected as the new leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats and that she has become the first female leader of a Welsh Party.
"I am sure that Kirsty will make a great leader who will convey our message and aims to the people of Wales.
"I have worked closely with Kirsty for a number of years as we represent the same constituency and I know that she is a hardworking, intelligent and highly motivated politician who will take the party forward and tackle the failed policies of the Labour-Plaid coalition head-on.
"I look forward to continuing to work closely with Kirsty in future and taking the party forward, both in Cardiff and Westminster.
"I would also like to congratulate Jenny for running a very good campaign and, although I am sure she will be disappointed at the result, I am also sure that she will remain a driving force within the Liberal Democrats and Welsh politics."
