Councillor Liam Fitzpatrick , the Liberal democrat member for Talybont ward has today with Kirsty Williams AM invited Ieuan Wyn Jones to visit his ward with Community councillors to discuss traffic black spots where fatalities and serious accidents have recently occurred.
Cllr Fitzpatrick said: "The tragic death of Darren Bray, of Newbridge-on wye, on the A470 near Nant Ddu last Friday morning has brought home once again to this community how dangerous these roads are and that something must immediately be done.
"Two fatalities in a number of weeks on the same stretch of road are two fatalities too many and I would hope that the Deputy first Minister will accept our invitation to visit and to rectify not only major problems in Nant Ddu but in Llanspydidd and Libanus as well, where serious accidents have occurred in the last few months .
"Road safety should be a prime concern for the Welsh Assembly Government and I would hope that the Minister will finally listen to the concerns of hundreds of my residents throughout the ward who every week contact myself and Kirsty with their concerns for their children , their aged and visitors to this wonderful part of the world. "
Kirsty Williams AM commented:" We have called upon the Minister to come and see first hand the dangers along these particular sections of road in order to press upon him the need for urgent action.
"We have seen too many tragic accidents along this stretch of road and measures must be taken to improve safety before more fatalities occur.
"We cannot afford to delay action any further; we hope that the Minister will agree to a visit which will in turn lead to immediate action to improve road safety."
