ROGER WILLIAMS TO ATTEND BRECKNOCK ACCESS 'BIG CHALLENGE'

November 12, 2009 12:00 AM

Brecon and Radnorshire MP, Roger Williams, has joined with Brecknock Access Group to 'Challenge' both Dyfed-Powys Police and Powys County Council to find out about the difficulties people with disabilities have in accessing every day services in our towns and villages.

The event will take place at the Tourist Information Centre, Brecon, at 1045am on Friday 13th November.

Attending the BIG CHALLENGE will be Roger Williams MP, Chief Constable of Dyfed-Powys Police, Ian Arundale, Chief Superintendent Steve Hughson and Powys County Council Chief Executive, Jeremy Patterson. They will have to face the 'big challenge' of finding their way around Brecon in a wheelchair and then blindfolded.

Mr Williams said:

"Even the simplest task of popping to town to buy a paper or a loaf of bread can cause difficulties for people with disabilities. Wheelchair users and people who are blind or partially sighted face particular problems when cars are parked on pavements or signs are placed in the way. New road layouts and shared surfaces also cause problems.

"I am pleased to be able to support Brecknock Access and help to raise awareness of this important issue"
