Roger Williams, MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, has welcomed the publication of the Legg report, which showed 374 MPs having to repay a total of £1.12m.
Roger Williams said:
"This parliament has been irrevocably damaged by the expenses scandal and people will not forget that for many years to come.
"Politicians now have a job to rebuild trust in our democracy and I hope that the publication of this report can mark the start of that rebuilding work.
"The fact that those MPs being charged by the CPS are now trying to hide behind parliamentary privilege will not help put an end to this matter and clearly further reform of the expenses system is required.
"I really hope that this law will not be allowed to be invoked in these cases, for the sake of serving MPs and new MPs entering parliament after the next election."
NOTES:
Mr Williams was included in the audit of MPs Expenses by Sir Thomas Legg and was told that he did not have to repay any of his claims
