William Powell AM, Welsh Liberal Democrat Rural Affairs Spokesman, has today written to John Griffiths AM, Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development, to urge him to consider the full potential benefits of an application to allow a production company to film upon Mynydd y Llan in the Brecon Beacons National Park for three months.
William Powell, Assembly Member for Mid and West Wales, said:
"The Brecon Beacons National Park and wider locations across Mid and West Wales have a long history of providing stunningly beautiful locations for both cinematic and televisual productions. From Ridley Scott's recent Robin Hood epic to the hugely popular Doctor Who, Wales has successfully built upon its natural virtues as an ideal filming location and in doing so has substantially enhanced our economy.
It is for this reason that I have today written to the Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development to urge him to take these potential benefits into account when overseeing the application to allow filming to commence for three months on Mynydd y Llan in Carmarthenshire.
This film project could invest millions into the rural Welsh economy and demonstrate that Wales remains open for business during these uncertain economic times."
