Cllr Kathryn Silk has been the County Councillor for the Bwlch ward - which includes the villages of Cwmdu and Tretower - since 2004. She has also been a member of the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority since that date, and was elected Chairman of the National Park's Planning Access and Rights of Way Committee in June 2008. During her first term of office Kathryn was a member of the Learning Opportunities Committee, and education and the welfare of children are amongst her main interests - she is Chairman of the Governors at Cwmdu Church in Wales Primary School, and is a Governor of Crickhowell High School. She has also been the County Council's representative on both the Adoption and Fostering Panels for the past five years. Since May 2008, Kathryn has been a member of the Council's Planning Committee and the Principal Scrutiny Committee as well as remaining on the Adoption Panel. Maintaining rural services and ensuring that young people can live and work in Powys are among Kathryn's top priorities. Kathryn has a professional background in recruitment and careers, having worked as a Recruitment Consultant in London, a self employed Recruitment Researcher and a Careers Advisor with Careers Wales (Powys) and as a part-time lecturer at Coleg Powys. She is a member of the Magistrates' Association and Brecknock Wildlife Trust. She is married with three sons - one at university and two still in school.
